Greg enlisted in 1980 as an E1 and after basic training he graduated from Combat Medic school and Operating Room Tech school. After a few years he started working full-time in the ARNG as a warehousemen, forklift operator, supply store manager, data punch tech, and then became a unit administrator/supply sergeant. He completed his senior NCO courses and was selected for promotion to E7, but there wasn't E7 slots available. He had previously graduated the Officer Candidate School but declined his commission.
He then took a leap of faith and accepted his 2nd Lt.bars and began a whole new career as an Infantry Officer in the 39th Inf. Brigade. He was later selected to be the Training Officer for the 212th Signal Battalion launching his second career as a Signal Corps officer. Greg excelled in the Signal Corps, learning and teaching the Army's newest mobile communications tech in his day. That success lead him to a position as the Telecommunications Director under the DCSIM for the state of Arkansas. He later had an opportunity to change careers to the private sector with then SBC now AT&T. Greg later retired as a Major.
The Farmer Veteran Coalition has broadened Greg's exposure to a larger group of customers and counterparts across the country. He is encouraged everyday when he sees fellow ex-military folks doing what they love the most as farmers or ranchers, builders and designers, and so many more things.
"We are a first generation family owned pecan farm with 448 trees. My uncle owned a small pecan farm and I was looking for something to do after I retired. We found the land in a great spot near the Old River Lake oxbow. We planted our first phase in 2018 and are working on getting the second phase by putting in a second irrigation system."
"I'm working hard to serve others in this industry. I serve on our state pecan association teaching and helping others to become successful pecan growers. Farmers, like soldiers, are too often overlooked in our society today. Most people today don't know where their food comes from. It's these hard working and faithful people who are squeaking out a living by producing for others."
