Lavelle served as a Combat paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He builds raised mobile garden beds primarily for disabled veterans but also for any person with mobility challenges.
"I had the pleasure of receiving a grant from the Farmer Veteran Coalition and the grant allowed me to work much more efficiently. Also, the exposure from being a part of the Coalition has been amazing. The resources are extremely valuable as well."
Lavelle grew up in Southeast Texas and has always been an outdoors person. He enjoyed gardening as a young person and after his military service he wanted to continue his gardening efforts. However, after several back injuries due to military service he was no longer able to Garden on the ground and designed the raised mobile garden bed to accommodate his needs.
"While I am not a farmer in the traditional sense, I do subscribe to the American farming principles and realize that farming is an integral part of our society. Growing our own food and products is the healthiest way to live. It also provides therapeutic avenues, especially for veterans dealing with PTSD."
