Theodore worked in Air Cargo, ramp service during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Worked on many close watch specialty missions like loading ordinance, tanks, satellites, and more. He was deployed to numerous locations, including to Kenya and Somalia in support of Operation Provide Hope.
FVC has helped Theodore and his family with the many programs. As well as the Armed to Farm program, Homegrown by Heroes label, and the Fellowship Fund. Networking opportunities as well as local chapter meetings have also been helpful.
"We are what we call a homestead-style farm. We have a variety of practices with vegetable gardens, meat animals, fruit tree orchard, and greenhouse. We provide the majority of our own food needs, while offering a great variety for our ag business. We also produce vegetable seeds as well as micro-manage our own compost pastures, and fertilizer needs."
"It was not an immediate transition. I will never forget that on my last deployment when I was in Mogadishu, Somalia, and I saw how skinny the famine victims were. I could not believe that someone could be so skinny and malnourished... and still be alive. I believe this was a big impact that directed me over time to farm. This led me to learn and keep learning. To grow and keep growing. And then to share with others. I have a 7-acre homestead-style farm where I raise animals for meat, crops for food, fruit trees, seed production, farm tours, and training. I have also been to places like Haiti, Zambia, Kenya, and more to teach micro-farming practices."
Theodore is able to host Veterans at his farm. Being able to share and teach, while building camaraderie, sets a good example of being patriotic while also helping others.
"Having experience around the world and in third-world countries, I appreciate the access to equipment, training, and other support programs. I want my local community to know about the benefits of locally sourced, farm-fresh produce."
