Doug is 100% Disabled after retiring from the Army. Renee is also a disabled Army Veteran. Doug grew up farming in KS and OK in his youth. Renee has had sizable gardens most of her life. Doug knew he would farm again when he set down roots. Doug and Renee decided Maryland is where they wanted to put down those roots. They bought their family home and began to plan the farm in 2010.
Service is the foundation of the Davis family ethic. Non-commissioned officers (NCOs) in the Army are considered the backbone. Both Doug and Renee were NCOs. They share the same initials “DRD” and as such, they consider DRDs the backbone of the company.
In military and law enforcement professions, a common phrase is “I’ve got your 6” meaning you can count on me to watch out for you and to have your back. GY6F is no different – they have your quality food on their minds and will ensure you get the best they can produce to nourish your family.
In addition to the farm, each year, Doug and Renee try to find new ways to bring the neighborhood and community together – hosting block parties, supporting international nights at local schools, and bringing church and scout troops to learn about farming. The GY6 team continues to serve in all areas of their lives.
