Biography

James Burch is a veteran leader with more than 40 years of military and federal service, now dedicated to strengthening Mississippi’s agricultural community. As the founder of Colemans Farm LLC, he grows chemical‑free produce and provides fresh food resources to local families while promoting sustainable land stewardship. James also serves as the state coordinator for a private donor’s Veteran support grant. He contributes his expertise to USDA boards, continuing a lifelong commitment to service, community, and empowering fellow Veterans.

"The Farmer Veteran Coalition has strengthened my agriculture business by providing essential resources, equipment, and connections that expanded my farm’s capacity and efficiency. Through FVC, I gained access to a national network of Veteran producers and USDA partners, which helped me refine my business planning and production practices. The organization also inspired my continued service, leading me to support other Veterans and contribute to statewide agricultural initiatives."

James' transition into agriculture started as a personal search for peace after decades of military service, but it quickly became a community mission. Growing clean, local food opened his eyes to the needs of rural families and the role he could play in meeting them. Farming now allows him to serve others in a meaningful, hands‑on way.

"Farming continues my sense of service because it lets me pour my energy into something bigger than myself — nourishing people, restoring the land, and helping other Veterans find purpose through agriculture. The farm gives me a new way to lead, to teach, and to serve with the same heart I carried throughout my military career. Being an American farmer means carrying forward a legacy of sacrifice, stewardship, and commitment to the country and community I love."
