Athena served for 20 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, 13 years enlisted as a Corpsman, serving overseas in Bahrain and Kuwait. She became a commissioned military officer, worked in federal law enforcement and marine inspections, enforcing federal laws on the waterways, cargo ships, and US port ways.
