Better record keeping, documentation, and help from FVC is needed for farmers and ranchers as they navigate USDA assistance programs.

Natural disasters can create life-threatening situations for many of us who live in rural areas because our communities are vulnerable due to limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and capacity constraints such as equipment shortages. These limitations can make it challenging to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters. Preparation is always key to staying safe during any emergency.

With the financial support of Archer Daniel Midland (ADM), the Farmer Veteran Coalition was afforded the staff time to develop a pilot program with our partners: Feeding America, USO, Armed Services YMCA, and MarketMaker.

In the past several months I have received frequent calls from many of the Climate-Smart Commodity Awardees wanting to partner with the Farmer Veteran Coalition.

Farmer Veteran Coalition Executive Director Jeanette Lombardo has been in the nation’s capital discussing agriculture policy and shares what she’s learned with members.

Farmer Veteran Coalition will be celebrating its 15th anniversary in February. The service to Farmer Veterans has grown a lot in the first 15 years with even more planned for the future.

Despite numerous challenges during 2023, FVC has done significant work to help its membership and looks ahead to more success in the coming year.

With the support of Clif Bar Family Foundation and ADM, FVC has begun the planning stages for a pilot where our FVC community will have the opportunity to make an impact, while helping their own.

Since October 7th the reports and images on the war in Israel have been heart wrenching to process. As I have sat down to write this newsletter article on the 16th of October, I learned that an additional 2,000 U.S. troops were told to prepare for deployment.

As many of you know, the Farm Bill is a multi-year law that governs an array of agricultural and food programs. It provides an opportunity for policymakers to comprehensively address agricultural and food issues.
