Did your farm suffer from an environmental disaster in 2020 or 2021?
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is extending the deadline for the Emergency Relief Program (ERP) Phase Two and Pandemic Assistance Revenue Program (PARP) to July 14, 2023, to give producers more time to apply for assistance. The original deadline was June 2.
Congress included emergency relief funding in the Extending Government Funding and Delivering Emergency Assistance Act and millions in funds are available to eligible farmers. You can read more about it here, https://www.fsa.usda.gov/programs-and-services/emergency-relief/index At a high level, these are the key points:
- ERP2 covers losses to crops, trees, bushes, and vines due to a qualifying natural disaster event in calendar years 2020 and 2021.
- ERP2 does NOT include coverage for — wild free roaming animals, horses or other animals for racing/wagering, Cannibis sativa L. or any part of the plant that does not meet the definition of hemp, timber, aquatic species that does not meet the definition of aquaculture, livestock or crops for grazing.
- ERP2 intends to fill additional assistance gaps and cover eligible producers who did not participate in existing risk management programs.
- ERP2 is a tax-year based certification program that provides assistance for producers that suffered a loss in revenue due to necessary expenses associated with losses of eligible crops (excluding crops intended for grazing), due in whole or in part, to a qualifying disaster.
