The Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC) has been at the forefront of supporting military veterans who are transitioning into careers in agriculture. In our ongoing efforts to provide valuable resources and information, the Farmer Veteran Coalition recently organized a Brown Bag Lunch webinar focusing on the Emergency Relief Program (ERP-2).
Understanding ERP-2:
The Emergency Relief Program mission is to help agricultural producers offset the impacts of natural disasters in 2020 and 2021. The FVC is offering Technical Assistance to its members nationwide. This recent webinar provided a platform for veterans to gain clarity on the intricacies of ERP-2, Farm Service Agency forms, and how to find out if your farm qualifies for the program.
Addressing Key FAQs:
- What’s the eligibility criteria for ERP-2?
During the webinar types of qualifying disasters, crops, and locating a farm’s gross revenue were discussed. - What types of assistance does ERP-2 offer?
Coleman explained that ERP-2 provides two payments and the linkage requirements necessary to receive payments. Information was shared on the required crop insurance options available including Noninsured Crop Assistance Program (NAP) which has some specific benefits for socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers. - How does ERP-2 support beginning farmers?
One of the noteworthy aspects of ERP-2 is that unlike other FSA programs, this one requires farmers to apply for the program independently. Even farmers who are registered with their local offices will not receive notification of this program and its benefits. To fill theis Technical Assistance gap, the FVC is collaborating with other agricultural organizations to help farmers access forms and information. - Are there any special considerations for minority or socially disadvantaged veterans?
The webinar shed light on the fact that the FSA is committed to providing equal opportunities to all veterans, including those from minority or socially disadvantaged backgrounds. A main aspects of this program aims to eliminate barriers and ensure fair access to resources, with specific provisions in place to support these groups. - How can veterans apply for ERP-2 assistance?
