Job description The Eastern States Exposition is seeking an enthusiastic and curious Agriculture Programs & Events Assistant to join the Agriculture as an intern this summer. This is a hands-on opportunity for students looking to gain real-world experience in event management, agricultural education, and public engagement—all within one of the largest event venues in the Northeast. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with people, being part of live events, and learning by doing. The Agriculture Programs & Events Assistant will play an active role in bringing agricultural programs and events to life, supporting everything from behind-the-scenes coordination to direct interaction with exhibitors and guests. Throughout the summer, the intern will contribute to a wide range of high-profile events, including the ESE Wine Competition, Hooplandia, ADGA National Show, Big E Cheese Competition, Northeast Sheep Show, and preparations for The Big E—providing a unique, resume-building experience in a fast-paced environment. Position ResponsibilitiesAssist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of eventsSupport daily operations of agricultural facilities, exhibits, and program areasInteract with exhibitors, vendors, and guests to provide a welcoming and positive experienceAssist with exhibitor registration and event logisticsSupport hands-on agricultural education programs, demonstrations, and youth activities (e.g., 4-H, FFA)Help develop and research ideas for educational programmingAssist with marketing efforts, including social media and on-site promotionsComplete administrative tasks such as scheduling, data entry, and inventory trackingTake on a variety of responsibilities that contribute to the success of the department QualificationsThis position is a great fit for students who are motivated, adaptable, and excited to learn in a dynamic environment.Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in agriculture, agribusiness, communications, marketing, education, event management, or a related fieldStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work both independently and as part of a teamInterest in agriculture, events, or community engagementWillingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekendsAbility to work outdoors and perform light physical tasks (must be able to lift 25 lbs)Flexibility and a sense of humor a must Preferred QualificationsExperience in customer service, events, or agricultural programsFamiliarity with social media platforms and basic marketing toolsInterest in or knowledge of agriculture, livestock, or regional farming communities What You’ll GainHands-on experience working behind the scenes at large-scale eventsExposure to agricultural education and public programmingOpportunities to build professional skills in communication, teamwork, and problem-solvingA deeper understanding of how major events like The Big E come togetherConnections with professionals in agriculture, education, and event management Hours & Compensation40 hours/week approximately May 12 through August 14, flexibility on start and end date based on your school schedule as well as to extend through The Big E if your schedule allowsSeasonal, FLSA Non-ExemptPay Range: $16–$18/hour
